  Difficult conversations

  No one likes a 'difficult' conversation', but they are a necessary part of operating successfully in a health & safety role. Inspector Wendy Robilliard is an expert at dealing with difficult people and having difficult conversations. Drawing on her experience working in the Safer People Team, as well as in leadership roles and at an operational level, Wendy will share her tips for dealing with difficult situations and where necessary, challenging the status quo, especially when working in a male-dominated environment.

  AI at work: Human factors, safety, and the real impact on people

  Artificial intelligence is increasingly embedded in safety-critical work, yet its impacts on people are often poorly understood. This session examines AI through a Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) lens, focusing on workload, trust, decision-making, and risk, and how poorly designed systems can unintentionally create new safety hazards. Drawing on current research and applied examples, the session will highlight where organisation attention needs to be to ensure AI supports, rather than undermines, safe work.
