The Safeguard Team
Phone 04 470 9671 Having served ten years in Whangarei and the next decade in Auckland, as a reporter for the Northern Advocate and NZ Herald respectively, Angela considers herself to be something of a job 'lifer'. This suggests her mug shot will sporadically feature in Safeguard’s pages for some time to come. We should all therefore be thankful for the combined skills of Sean and Jon, without whom the magazine would look like it’s run by someone on the run. In a former life Angela attended Otago University where she acquired a BA in nothing in particular, and Wellington Polytechnic where she learned that in journalism even nothing in particular can be useful. A lowlight of her career was the scathing report written by the Herald’s occupational health nurse who assessed the Whangarei branch office set up by Angela. It mentioned exposed cord trip hazards and dangerously leaning book cases. If only she could see her now.
Phone 09 360 3727 Some years ago I was an HR consultant for an educational institution – but that was in a previous life, before overseas travel and children. I’ve also had a crack at running my own small business, so I have some appreciation of the joys and challenges of entrepreneurship. On the health and safety front, we have four teenagers in the house so I can verify that in the mornings our bathroom is most definitely a confined space.
Phone 09 360 3709 Peter joined Safeguard in 1995 after completing the Auckland University of Technology one-year journalism course. It has been his privilege to meet many committed and enthusiastic health and safety practitioners who have done their best to educate him in the finer points of the subject. He is grateful for their efforts. Any knowledge he appears to possess about health and safety is due to them. His ignorance, however, is entirely of his own making. In an earlier life, he scraped through a B.Tech (Maths) from Massey University, and spent countless years toiling as a commercial software developer. He was born and bred – if that is the right term – in Levin.
Phone 09 525 3004 Jon is the creative partner at Critical Mass Communications, his role being to make sense of the torrent of words and images our editorial and advertising teams send him in order to come up with page designs coherent enough to be sent to the printer. When pressed, he will concede he has more than 20 years experience in this field, despite what he describes as his youthful appearance. He says the one downside to working on Safeguard is the ladder phobia he has developed after reading too many prosecution summaries, which at least proves he is one of the few pre-press people who bothers to read the copy. When he is not working on Safeguard and Employment Today he is busy producing a range of advertising and branding project for other clients.
Phone 09 525 7445 During the last two decades Sean has enjoyed taking photographs for clients from all walks of life (some upright, some slightly hunched). He operates in the commercial/ industrial, studio and photo journalist sectors of the trade and shoots exclusively on high-end digital, which allows his clients to see results straight away. He owns a pair of safety boots and a hard hat, not, he says, in case a client turns nasty, but because he is frequently called upon to shoot construction sites in progress. He even has a Site Safe passport. |
