Safety videos acclaim

Health and safety videos produced in New Zealand have been awarded top honours at the 2010 US Telly Awards in New York.

Vector had commissioned Auckland production company Omnicron Productions to produce a new series of health and safety DVDs as part of the company’s health and safety day.

Omnicron’s producer, Andrew Eggelton, said the videos included an elaborate re-creation of a road accident with a collapsing power pole. Eggelton said the DVDs needed to be much more than just a traditional shopping list of do’s and don’ts. “You can’t shift attitudes unless you win the hearts and minds of your audience, so engagement is the priority.”

Results:

• Vector 'Crossing the Road to Safety', Silver (first place) for non-broadcast; safety & employee communication.
• Firth 'A Day In The Life Of Firth', Silver, non-broadcast; safety.
• Air New Zealand 'Rotor Event', Bronze (second place), non-broadcast; safety & employee communication
• Fletcher Aluminum 'You Make The Difference', Bronze, non-broadcast; safety.

The Vector video 'Crossing the Road to Safety' also achieved third place (certificate of creative excellence) in Corporate Employee Communication at the US International Film & Video Festival, held in Los Angeles June 2010.
