Bluebird Foods Limited was fined $32,000 and ordered to pay reparation of $10,000 under s6 of the HSE Act after an employee’s hand became caught in a moving rotary valve of a fryer oven. His middle finger was amputated from the nail upwards, and his tendons pulled. The machine was not appropriately guarded and the risk was not obvious to the employee ( Auckland DC, April 21, 2011).
