Canterbury Casting was fined $27,500 and ordered to pay 
reparations of $4500 under s6 of the HSE Act. An employee’s 
hand was cut and fractured as he tried to clear a blockage in 
a sand mixer ( Timaru DC, March 3, 2010). 
Goodman Fielder NZ Ltd was fined $30,954 and ordered 
to pay reparations of $3000 to an employee whose finger was 
damaged in an unguarded machine. The DoL said the perspex 
guard of a potato depositer machine was broken, and this 
was known by the line supervisor and employee. There was 
no written hazard identification, no safe operating procedures 
and no training records (Manukau DC, March 17).
