JANUS BAKKERIJ LTD was fined $7000 under s6, $750 under s25 for failing to report a serious harm incident, convicted and discharged under s7 for failing to systematically identify hazards, and ordered to pay reparations of $10,000 to a worker who was burned when emptying oil from a deep fryer. The injured man had never done the task before and had been given instructions by phone. He was not told to cool the oil before he drained it and, as a result, the base of the plastic collection bucket melted, leaking oil onto the floor. The worker slipped in the oil, burning his hands and forearm, and required eleven days hospital treatment ( Lower Hutt DC, January 17).
