D.F. O’BRIEN LOGGING CONTRACTORS LTD was fined $3500 under s.6 and ordered to pay $1000 in reparations after two employees were hit by a tree felled by another worker. The injured men were in a processing area, frequently used by skid workers and machine operators, but the company had taken no steps to alert its employees to the dangers of felling near the work site or to systematically control the associated hazards. One man suffered a head wound that kept him off work for two weeks, while the other, who received all the reparations, suffered internal bleeding and was unable to work for 8 weeks (Greymouth DC, 2 December.)
