INDEPENDENT LIQUOR (NZ) LTD was fined $5000 under s16(1)(b)(iv) after a temp from a labour hire company received severe burns to both hands from a glue gun. The gun was connected by hoses to the production line. When the man moved the gun's table, the gun was pulled off. He tried to grab the machine, from which hot glue spilled. The gun was not bolted to the table, and the table was not fixed to the floor. He had not been told about the hazard of hot glue. The incident happened at 3.45am. No information was available to guide workers to the nearest after-hours emergency clinic. The injured man, who was hospitalised for four days, was awarded half the fine. (Papakura DC, 7 May)
