OSH Tracker

Defendant:
Auckland Racing Club
AUCKLAND RACING CLUB INC was fined $6500 under s.6 after an employee who had been with the club only six days fell 2.5m when he stepped through a fibrolite ceiling panel while cleaning. He stepped off a boarded area onto the panel to reach the last part of the ballast rail to be cleaned. The company had not identified the ceiling panels as a hazard, nor instructed its employee about the hazard and not to proceed past the boarded area. It could also have prevented access to the panels or extended the boards to cover them. The injured man, whose head injuries caused memory loss and partial deafness, was awarded $5000.
