ACTIVE ALUMINIUM SCAFFOLDS LTD was fined a total of $4400 under s.15 and r.26 for a dozen defects in scaffolding on a building being cleaned and plastered. Defects included missing guard rails and base plates, an unacceptable gap between the scaffold and the building, and unsafe ladder access. The scaffold had been used by six workmen from two other companies, putting them at risk of a fall of up to 8m. The defendent was fined $2000 on each of two representative s.15 charges, convicted and discharged on four others, and fined $400 for failing to notify OSH of the work. (North Shore DC, 11 December)
