BUSHNELL BUILDERS LTD was fined $5000 under s18 of the HSE Act for placing plastering contractors in danger of a fall of up to 7.2m by allowing them to use scaffolding deficient in many ways. Part of the scaffolding was constructed on top of a shop verandah which was not temporarily supported. It lacked sufficient planks, guard rails and bracing, no means of safe access was provided, and workers had to climb from one part to another unprotected by guard rails. The scaffold had been erected by an uncertified scaffolder, and OSH had not been notified. (Christchurch DC, 14 December 1999)
