POLE TIMBER AND HARDWARE LTD was fined $8000 under s6 of the HSE Act after an employee’s arm was severely lacerated in the revolving blade of a pendulum saw when the rope designed to prevent "rebounding" failed. There was no procedure for it to be regularly checked and replaced, nor was there a safety catch in place. The injured man received half the fine. (Otahuhu DC, 5 October)
