ALVI'S JAPANESE CAR PART WORLD LTD was fined a total of $4000 under two s6 charges for failing to ensure spray coating took place in accordance with the Spray Coating Regulations 1962, and for failing to provide and maintain a safe working environment. An OSH inspector observed oil spills, unstable stacked car bodies, and electrical fittings adjacent to paint mixing. Spray painting using solvent-based paint was being carried out in an open work area. No mechanical extraction was in use. (Otahuhu DC, 9 February)
