For failing to notify a serious harm accident as soon as possible and for interfering with the accident scene, Waikato Tractors Limited was convicted and fined a total of $1750 in the Hamilton District Court on 11 August.  On a charge of failing to notify the accident within seven days the firm was convicted and discharged. The hand injury to a staff member, which resulted in the amputation of three fingertips, occurred with a moving part of the engine of a tractor which was subsequently sold before OSH could investigate the scene.  However, the Court found there was no deliberate attempt to thwart the investigation.
