A bill which seeks to amend the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (among others) has passed through Parliament to the select committee stage.

The Domestic Violence - Victims' Protection Bill, promoted by Green MP Jan Logie, seeks to make three changes to the HSW Act:

  • change the definition of a hazard to include a person's behaviour where it could cause harm, where that behaviour is because a person is inflicting domestic violence or is the victim of domestic violence;
  • change the duties of a PCBU to include having a policy on dealing with domestic violence;
  • change the obligations of a PCBU to its health & safety reps by giving them training to support workers who are victims of domestic violence.
