Topham Holding Ltd

Fined $10,000 for a breach of the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016 in that, being a PCBU with management or control of a workplace, or of a structure, failed to ensure so far as reasonably practicable, that asbestos was removed before demolition commenced. The regulator had advised the company’s director that asbestos would need to be managed in the proposed demolition of an old chicken shed, but the company proceeded to demolish the structure without engaging a competent person to ensure the asbestos was first removed

Dimac Contractors Ltd

Fined $90,000 under the HSW Act after a digger struck a power line in Upper Hutt, causing it to snap and the lines to become entangled on the digger. No one was hurt, but the lines were live and the company had ignored advice from the property owners to treat the lines as if they were live.

Lindsay Whyte Painters and Decorators Ltd

Fined $50,000 for a breach of the HSW Act and ordered to pay $20,000 reparation after one of two workers at a residential build site fell 2.8m from the roof through a glass table onto concrete. The company failed to identify the risk of a fall, failed to put edge protection or other measures in place, and failed to ensure workers were trained in working at height.
