The Health and Safety Reform Bill has been passed by Parliament. The new core legislation, the Health and Safety at Work Act, will come into effect on 4 April 2016.

WorkSafe has provided a guide to what happens next, while MBIE outlines the duties facing a hypothetical small business.

The CTU is considering a judicial review over the proposal to exclude industries such as quarrying and dairy and beef farming from a list of high-risk industries.

The Law Society is concerned about a last-minute addition to the new legislation which could see an individual or an employer tried and convicted under the HSW Act without seeing all the evidence, or being present during all proceedings.
