The Transport and Industrial Relations Select Committee has reported the Health and Safety Reform Bill back to Parliament.

WorkSafe NZ has provided a summary of the key changes recommended by the committee, and also a link to the committee's full report.

Reaction to the committee's report has been swift, including from:

  • the Labour Party, which has withdrawn its support for the Bill because of exemptions for small businesses and farmers
  • the Business Leaders' Health & Safety Forum, which supports the overall legislation and calls for it to be well supported with regulations and clear guidance
  • the NZCTU, which has condemned the changes to worker engagement in health and safety in smaller businesses

Meanwhile, WorkSafe NZ has taken a leaf from the UK's Health and Safety Executive and published a "myth busting" summary of what it says are common but erroneous assumptions about the new legislation.
