Employees should raise their mental health issues with employers where it may impact on their work, says employment lawyer Peter Cullen.

By doing so, he says, an employer is able to take steps to help alleviate an employee's distress where possible.

Writing on Stuff, Cullen also encourages employers to facilitate a culture where people can freely talk about depression and other mental health issues.
