The Rotorua District Court has granted a two-month extension of time to the Council of Trade Unions to enable it to file charges under the HSE Act against M&A Cross Ltd, the employer of Charles Finlay, who was among the 10 forestry workers killed at work last year.

A hearing on 10 June will determine if the court also allows an extension of time for the CTU to lay charges against the employer of Eramiha Pairama.

The CTU plans to pursue private prosecutions relating to the deaths of two other forestry workers last year, and has set up a public donation website to help it fund these actions.
