New Australian research suggests new technology is causing an average of four hours per week of unproductive time at work, contributing to distraction, overload and stress.

Fairfax NZ News reports the researchers surveyed 435 Australian workers about distraction and overload at work. Half the respondents said they were frequently distracted by emails, texts and phone calls.

The ability to be connected 24/7 led 80 percent of respondents to respond to work emails from home.

The researchers described distraction as the nemesis of productivity.
