A French public and occupational health researcher has declined one of the nation's highest honours in protest at the continuing exposure of French workers to asbestos and other hazardous substances.

Science Insider reports that Annie Thébaud-Mony, a 30-year research veteran at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM), declined to become a knight in the Légion d'Honneur in protest at what she says is a continuing lax attitude towards workplace health hazards.
