BREAK YOUR FALL

Airmat soft fall technology has been introduced to New Zealand by construction company owner David Grigor, who researched soft fall options such as nets and mats to make his own work sites safer. He decided upon the Fall Safe system from Europe, which has been in use since 1998 and, he says, is compliant for people working at heights of up to seven metres. The airmats are a modular system of interconnecting mats linked together with a patented flexible Velcro system. They work through a reverse bouncy castle effect – rather than people bouncing if they hit them, they are safely absorbed by a cushion effect. They will also handle a fall of more than one person at once. Having introduced the modular air mat system to his own projects he is now making the technology available for hire to other construction firms, with 13,000 square metres of mat currently available.

FLEXIBLE CONTAINMENT

New from UltraTech, the leaders in spill containment, is the Ultra-Flexi Deck System. Ultra-Flexi Decks function like any other spill deck, offering low profile, secondary containment for drums and smaller containers. In addition, the Ultra-Flexi Deck System disassembles into smaller components when not in use, saving valuable storage space and minimising shipping costs. Like all UltraTech spill decks, the Ultra-Flexi Deck system comes in various sizes including one, two and four-drum models which can be connected with “flow-through” bulkhead fittings to allow neighbouring decks to share containment capacity. An optional bladder can be added that provides an additional 250L of capacity and only deploys when needed.
