Safety 2012 World Conference

This is your opportunity to join injury prevention and safety specialists from around the world.

Are you passionate about injury prevention and safety promotion? Then the Safety 2012 World Conference is for you. With a host of keynote speakers from around the world who will be presenting the latest findings, you can join the elite of the injury prevention and safety world to debate, discuss and share information and expertise. And as if you didn’t already have enough reasons to register, there is a special rate for those who register before 1 August.

Safety 2012 is the 11th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion and will take place in Wellington from 1 – 4 October. The event is held under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO). Safety 2012 will cover issues related to prevention of injuries from all external cause, both accidental and intentional. Discussions will also include the environments in which people are exposed to injury risks such as work, transport, school, leisure and recreation, sports and in the domestic environment.

Everyone who has an interest in injury prevention and safety promotion is welcome to register for the conference. There will be a strong international and diverse audience at the Safety 2012 World Conference including practitioners, researchers, policy makers, education, and public administration.

As part of Safety 2012’s world class programme some of the world’s leading speakers on Injury prevention and safety will be presenting at the conference. Confirmed keynote speakers include: Judith Hackitt (United Kingdom), Dr Louis Hugo Francescutti (Canada), David Engwicht (Australia), Dr Linda Degutis (United States), Prof Sir Peter Gluckman (New Zealand) and Prof Ian Roberts (United Kingdom). They want to share their knowledge and expertise in fields across the injury prevention and safety spectrum including: workplace safety, treatment and rehabilitation, alcohol and other drugs, emergency care, self-harm and suicide, burns and fire prevention, and family violence.

But it’s not all work. After the official welcome ceremony, attendees are encouraged to join their colleagues at the reception function. All delegates will also be invited to attend the conference dinner for an evening of fine local produce, entertainment and fun. The 2012 conference will be held across three iconic Wellington venues: the Michael Fowler Centre, Te Wharewaka o Poneke and the Adam Auditorium located at the City Art Gallery, all of which are within five minutes walking distance of each other.

The conference is held biennially and this year Safety 2012 is organised by the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), Safe Communities Foundation New Zealand (SCFNZ), and the University of Otago’s Injury Prevention Research Unit (IPRU). There are also numerous partners and colleagues in New Zealand, Australia, and internationally who are contributing to the planning and success of the conference. Registration is easy.
